Volunteer at the Library

Interested in Volunteering?

Volunteering at the library is a great place to give back to your community.

Please fill out this form and return it to the library.

  •  Due to the number of volunteer applications that the Library receives, applicants may not hear from a library staff member until your listed preferences or skill sets are needed.
  • To be in compliance with State Law, library volunteers 18 years and older must have PA State Clearances for volunteers. All prospective library volunteers must obtain the following clearances or have proof of clearances obtained in the last 3 years.
    • Report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)

    • Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse)

    • Additionally, a fingerprint based federal criminal history (FBI) submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent is not required if: the position the volunteer is applying for is unpaid; and the volunteer has been a Pennsylvania resident continuously for the past 10 years. Volunteers who are not required to obtain the FBI Clearance because they are applying for an unpaid position and have been a continuous resident of Pennsylvania for the past 10 years must swear or affirm in writing that they are not disqualified from service based upon a conviction of an offense under §6344.

For more information on the why these clearances are required visit the Keep Kids Safe website.

The Library Board of Trustees also welcomes patrons with professional skill sets for work on their committees including areas of finance, funding development, facilities, programming, future planning, and technology.  If you are interested in supporting the Library through the Board, please contact Sharon Julian-Milas, Library Director, milass@einetwork.net or 412-655-2424.

The all-volunteer Friends of the Library group that supports the Library is always taking volunteers.  This group needs volunteers for its semi-annual newsletter mailings, the annual used book sale in the spring, and other projects.  If you are interested in helping the Friends, please contact Becky Dixon at rwdixon@verizon.net.
